Phi Delta Chi - Beta Alpha Chapter

8000 Utopia parkway

Jamaica, NY, 11439

The Beta Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Chi was conceived on January 18th, 1958 at St. John's University. Since then, our chapter has witnessed over 60 years of internal success, academic enrichment, brotherhood, and production of alumni who are leaders in pharmacy across the United States. We are the oldest fraternity at St. John's University, as the founders of our chapter were also the initial executive leaders of St. John's University's inter-fraternity council (IFC). Over 500 alumni of our chapter exist, an work in settings including community practices, hospitals, pharmaceutical industries, government owned health care institutions, research, dual medical and pharmaceutical practices and many more.

Our chapter adviser, Dr. Joseph Etzel is an alumni of the Beta Alpha Chapter. He is also a dual alumus of the St. John's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, having earned his bachelors in pharmacy in 1988 and Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1990. Following his graduate studies, he completed a residency focusing on infectious diseases and pharmacokinetics at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York, eventually joining the St. John's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences as a clinical practitioner in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. In 2001, Dr. Etzel joined the college's dean's office and became the Assistant Dean for Pharmacy Student Affairs, and has been our chapter adviser for over 15 years now.

Today, the Beta Alpha Chapter has welcomed over 600 Brothers, and counting. We serve our profession, our college, and aim to grow in numbers and as future health care professionals. Our chapter annually participates or hosts multiple events on our campus, and is always a source of aid to our faculty and college. We are both a professional pharmacy organization and a Greek Life associated fraternity at St. John's University, and are proud to own this status as no other professional organization at our school does so.
